Actor Paul Newman[1] who, among many other roles including the iconic Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke, Fast Eddie Felson in The Hustler and his Oscar-winning sequel The Color Of Money, was the voice of Doc Hudson in Disney/Pixar’s Cars, has died from cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83. In a career stretching over more than 50 movies, the multi-Oscar lauded (ten nominations, two wins, including an Honorary award) legendary star’s other major films included Hud, The Sting, The Towering Inferno and Road To Perdition, while a humanitarian streak saw him famously donating all proceeds from his Newman’s Own food products to charity. Newman’s serious interest in race driving also propelled him to come second in the 1979 Le Mans grand prix, win the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1995, and led to his final film role in Cars, a sequel[2] to which is planned to come to theaters in 2011. The Internet Movie Database[3] has a full listing of Newman’s cinematic achievements.
