Though the event is still several months away, early Oscar talk at The Envelope[1] predicts that The Simpsons Movie and the Parisian-set Ratatouille will be the the main contenders this year for the Best Animated Feature Film award. Edward Douglas points out, “Look at how many Emmys The Simpsons has won, and it’s very much in the mainstream public consciousness. And the movie is just as good and just as funny as Ratatouille.” But on the other hand, Jeffrey Wells argues, “Forget The SimpsonsRatatouille says something that is true and generous that everyone recognizes, which is that not anyone can be an artist but that art can come from anywhere.” Other films considered in the article are Surf’s Up and Shrek 3, as well as the upcoming Bee Movie and Beowulf.
