At the age of 80 years old, Jan Svochak died Wednesday afternoon, reports Cartoon Brew[1]. After fighting in World War II, Svochak gained a position at Famous Studios in NYC, assisting Marty Taras on cartoons starring Baby Huey, Little Audrey, and Herman & Katnip. In addition, he freelanced for Pelican Films, Byron Rabbitt, Zanders, Buzzco, Ink Tank, Jumbo, J.J. Sedelmaier Productions and Perpetual Motion Pictures. It was at the last of those companies that Svochak worked on the Mr. Hipp shorts for NBC’s Weekend in the 70’s. He likewise animated for such programs as The Mad Magazine TV Special (1974) and Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City (1981). However, Svochak might be remembered best for his work as head animator on the Hawaiian Punch campaign, a job spanning from the 60’s until the early 90’s.
