KXLY_com (9k image)[1]Born on February 18, 1919, in Lattimer Mines, Pennsylvania, Jack Palance died of natural causes on Friday, at his home in Montecito, California. He was 87 years old. Known for a variety of tough-guy roles, Palance enjoyed “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” nominations for his work as Lester Blaine in Sudden Fear (1952) and as Jack Wilson in Shane (1953). It was not until his third nomination in that category that Palance won, however, for the comedic role of Curly Washburn in City Slickers (1991). During his acceptance speech at the Oscars, he performed a series of one-handed push-ups on stage.

That famous act was referenced by Palance himself for the traditionally-animated film The Swan Princess (1994), in which he voiced the villainous Lord Rothbart. The film went on to garner an Artios nomination from the Casting Society of America, USA, for “Best Casting for Animated Voiceover.” For more information on the life and death of Jack Palance, please visit The Big Cartoon Database[2], Yahoo!/The Associated Press[3] and The Internet Movie Database[4].
