In the Primate of His Life

The Orlando Sentinel[1] via the Los Angeles Times has an interesting article up about Andy Serkis’ research and preparation for his motion-capture acting of the title character in King Kong. Director Peter Jackson utilized not only Serkis’ broader body action, but the nuanced expressions of his face as well. “To play Kong in the lavish remake of the 1933 classic, WETA used facial-motion capture. Serkis donned 132 electrode-like markers that ‘captured my facial movements as well as Kong’s eye movements. The thing about gorillas is that there is a central connection they have to you without necessarily looking at you.'”
