Canada’s Metro News[1] profiles the creation of one of this year’s Oscar-nominated animated shorts, Ryan. “The project began when director Chris Landreth, lacking studio and crew, stumbled upon Seneca to fill both voids in 2002. Producer Steve Hoban and program co-ordinator Larry DeFlorio agreed Seneca would provide the labour and location — including a production suite with eight high-powered workstations. Though Landreth was skeptical, these top grads had state-of-the-art animation skills in texturing, lighting, modelling and rendering. ‘I had certain trepidations … it was the first time I worked with students,’ admits Landreth. ‘The younger you are the fresher and more perceptive you are. These students got their heads around really new ideas.'”
