The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that 11 animated features will be eligible for an oscar nomination. Here is the list:

The Polar Express
Based on a children’s book, this CG feature is directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Tom Hanks.
The director had feared his film might not qualify in the animation category because it uses a brand new technique called performance capture, for which Tom Hanks and costars acted out their roles in live action, while technicians later converted the performances to CGI.

Sky Blue
Originally known as Wonderful Days, Sky Blue is a Korean sci-fi anime set in the near future, when mankind’s reckless exploitation of the environment has sparked a planet-wide catastrophe that has all but ended human civilization on earth.

The Incredibles
Opening today, pixar’s latest movie is an action comedy about a family of superheroes. Directed byIron Giant‘s Brad Bird, this is ther first Pixar movie to feature humans as main characters.

The Legend of Buddha
The Legend of Buddha, reportedly the first full-length 2D animation feature produced from India, simplifies the life and times of the Buddha for children. The Singapore government, which partially funded this film, wanted it to be 2D animation because it wanted to train its people in this genre of animation.

Clifford’s Really Big Movie
John Ritter voices Clifford, the Big Red Dog who runs away to join a carnival act and help win a lifetime supply of Tummy Yummies.

Ghost in the Shell 2: InnocenceMamoru Oshii’s amine sequel is a philosophical meditation on what means to be human. Marrying CG and traditional animation, this is perhaps the most viually stunning anime since Akira.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
Everyone’s favorite animated sponge is brought to the big-screen for an all new comic adventure.
pongeBob SquarePants takes leave from the town of Bikini Bottom in order to track down King Neptune’s stolen crown.

Home on the Range
The last 2D feature from Disney features voice talents Judy Dench, Roseanne and Jennifer Tilly as three cows trying to save their farm.

Shark Tale
DreamWorks’ answer to Finding Nemo features wil Smith as a fast-talking little fish who gains a reputation as a killer of sharks. The all-star voice cast includes Robert De Niro, Jack Black, Angelina joile and Martin Scorsese.
